A Fortnight of Two Halves: Contracts, Concerts, and Keeping the Ghost Light Burning
It’s been an interesting, whirlwind couple of weeks here at Ghostlight. Graduate season is in full swing, and my calendar has been a relentless loop of train journeys across the country and down to London to catch the wonderful graduates at their graduate shows.
When you find those standout performers, the momentum is electric. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the process of diving into the final stages of contract negotiations, tying up loose ends, and deciding who will officially be joining our agency roster.
The Frustrations of the Industry
Being honest, isn’t all front-row seats and signed paperwork. Being an agent has its incredibly testing moments.
Lately, auditions and casting feedback have been a massive waiting game, and one of the hardest parts of the job is the silence. You put the work in, your talent delivers, you hold the meetings, and then... some people just don't let you know where things stand. It can be incredibly frustrating to navigate that radio silence when you are ready to invest your time, energy, and heart into moving someone's career forward. It truly has been a fortnight of two halves: the highest of highs, matched with the quiet waiting periods of the business.
Finding the Light
Thankfully, whenever the industry side gets a bit heavy, the light always breaks through.
Just yesterday, I was speaking to one of my talent who was absolutely buzzing after a fantastic meeting they’d just had. Hearing that pure excitement and passion down the phone instantly refuels my tank. It’s a powerful reminder of why we do this.
Stepping away from the laptop to enjoy some personal time has also made me smile—going to concerts with the family and witnessing some truly wonderful live musical performances has been the perfect antidote to a stressful week.
In this business, there is always a delicate dance between light and darkness. The frustrations of quiet audition loops come and go, but getting to protect, guide, and share the joy of an actor who is buzzing is exactly what keeps me smiling.
After all—that is exactly what it means to be the Ghost Light.
